There is something unmistakable about a Pebble Beach wedding. The coastline, cypress trees, changing light, and wide views of the Pacific create a setting that feels remarkable without asking for attention.
Aaren and Allison chose The Lodge at Pebble Beach for their ceremony, followed by an evening celebration at The Beach & Tennis Club. With Joni of Kindred Events Co. guiding the day, every element felt considered while still leaving room for what mattered most — time with the people they had gathered there.
THE CEREMONY AT THE LODGE AT PEBBLE BEACH
Allison wore a Vera Wang gown while Aaren chose a classic Tom Ford tuxedo, a pairing that felt perfectly at home against the understated beauty of Pebble Beach.
As guests gathered overlooking the coast, the Monterey String Quartet played and Allison made her way down the aisle. The setting was beautiful, of course, but what I remember most are the smaller moments around it — expressions from family, the anticipation before the ceremony began, and the way Aaren looked at Allison as she approached.
Those are so often the photographs that grow in meaning later.
PORTRAITS ALONG THE COAST
One of my favorite things about photographing at Pebble Beach is how much variety exists within such a small stretch of coastline. Open ocean, windswept trees, soft grass, and changing coastal light each offer something different without needing to pull a couple away from their celebration for long.
For Aaren and Allison, the landscape became part of the photographs without overpowering them. The goal was never simply to make beautiful pictures of Pebble Beach, but to photograph the two of them within a place that had become part of their wedding story.
DINNER AT THE BEACH & TENNIS CLUB
After the ceremony, everyone gathered at The Beach & Tennis Club for dinner overlooking the water.
Pebble Beach Florist created soft floral arrangements that complemented the setting, while stationery from The Quill and thoughtful details throughout the reception gave the evening a sense of personality without competing with the view.
As daylight faded, the atmosphere shifted from the quiet formality of the ceremony into something warmer and more relaxed — conversations around the tables, toasts, laughter, and the moments that happen when everyone finally settles into the evening.
AN EVENING OF CELEBRATION
Later, The Shrines from Dart Collective filled the dance floor.
This is always one of my favorite transitions to photograph. The polished details and carefully planned pieces of the day give way to movement, expression, and completely unplanned moments. People stop thinking about the camera. Jackets come off. Friends pull one another onto the dance floor. Everything becomes a little less composed and a lot more alive.
Those photographs belong beside the portraits and details because together they tell the fuller story of the day.
PHOTOGRAPHING A WEDDING AT PEBBLE BEACH
What stays with me about Aaren and Allison’s wedding is not one particular detail or photograph, but the balance of it all — the beauty of the setting alongside the warmth of the people who filled it.
Pebble Beach gave us an extraordinary backdrop, but the photographs I return to are the ones that reveal something about the people in them: a glance during the ceremony, hands reaching for one another, laughter around a dinner table, or a fleeting expression on the dance floor.
The coastline may be what first catches your eye.
The people are what make the photographs matter.
