Serene is the word that comes to mind when I think about this San Francisco newborn session. Soft November light filled their home and spilled through the windows. It was a beautiful setting for documenting the earliest days of life with their baby boy.
In-home newborn sessions have always been some of my favorites to photograph. There is something meaningful about documenting a family in the place where their everyday life is beginning. The nursery, the couch, and the light through familiar windows all become part of a child’s story.
These new parents were so natural together. They held their son close, looked at one another, and settled easily into those first days as a family. Some of my favorite photographs are the quietest ones: a hand resting gently on him, a glance across the room, or the way everything seemed to slow down when they held him.
Their beautifully designed San Francisco home made the perfect backdrop. My favorite photographs were created in the living room. Mom and Dad curled up together on the couch with their baby boy while two large windows overlooked the city. Soft autumn light poured in around them.
These are the kinds of photographs that become more meaningful with time — images of what home felt like when everything was new.
